Calm weather Monday will lead to a stormy Tuesday with a mix of snow, sleet and rain expected.

Partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 30s are expected Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures could push 40 degrees Monday, NWS meteorologist Gino Izzi said.

Winds will increase to 10 to 15 miles per hour with gusts up to 35 miles per hour after midnight, according to NWS. Temperatures will drop to the upper 20s by nightfall.

A mix of snow, rain and sleet are expected Tuesday, especially in the south suburbs, Izzi said.

Snow and sleet will arrive in the morning, changing to snow by the afternoon, according to NWS.

Potential snowfall could range between no accumulation and rainfall to more than six inches in snow, Izzi said.

There is a 90 percent chance of precipitation and temperatures will be in the low 30s, according to the NWS.

Wind gusts will range from 30 to 40 miles per hour, Izzi said.
