Superintendent McCarthy assists in arrest on West Side

While patrolling with Chicago Police officers, Supt. Garry McCarthy assisted in arresting a man early Tuesday in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

McCarthy was assisting officers during a traffic stop when a handgun was recovered at 1:26 a.m. in the 5500 block of West Congress Parkway, according to a release from police News Affairs.

Montrez Armstead, 23, 1400 block of North Lawndale, was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police said.

Armstead was expected Tuesday in bond court.
