A teenager who died two days after he was shot in the head on the West Side was killed by a friend playing with a gun, according to police.

Kentan Scott, 15, was shot in the head in his home in the 4800 block of West Quincy Street about 8 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

Police said Scott’s friend Darius Lewis, 17, was playing with a gun when he shot him in the head, police said. Scott was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died Saturday at 9:53 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Lewis, of the 4900 block of West Washington Street, was charged Saturday with reckless discharge of a firearm, a class 4 felony, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

Lewis is being held on $300,000 bail, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office. He is next scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

During a preliminary investigation, police said it appeared Scott had accidentally shot himself. As the investigation went on, detectives determines Scott’s friend Darius Lewis was in the room and was the one who discharged the firearm, police said.
