(OAK FOREST) A woman was killed Friday afternoon when a black sport-utility vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and hit her car in a three-vehicle accident near Oak Forest, the Cook County Sheriff’s office said.
Anasis Knox, 25, was killed and two other people were hospitalized -- one with serious injuries, authorities said. The driver of the SUV was being questioned.
The accident occurred about 1:40 p.m. at 167th Street and Lockwood Avenue in unincorporated Cook County, sheriff’s police spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said. A black SUV traveling east on 167th Street struck an eastbound white SUV then veered into oncoming traffic, striking an Oldsmobile driven by the woman.
Knox, of Downers Grove, was declared dead at 2:35 p.m. at Advocate South Suburan Hospital in Hazel Crest, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The driver of the white SUV was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with serious injuries, Ansari said. The driver of the black SUV was not injured.
The accident left debris scattered across the road and prompted the closure of 167th Street from Central to Cicero avenues for several hours.
