(WHEATON) An Aurora woman whose boyfriend and accomplice died last summer of a drug overdose has been placed on probation for selling heroin on Naperville’s far west side.

 

A DuPage County Circuit Court judge on Friday also ordered the woman, Carly J. Cooper, to undergo substance abuse treatment and counseling as part of her sentence.

 

Cooper, 22, and her boyfriend, Brandon A. Bolton, were arrested Feb. 2 during a drug transaction in the parking lot of a strip mall on the 700 block of South Route 59. Bolton, 25, died before going to trial, after overdosing on drugs in the home he and Cooper shared on South Madison Avenue in Aurora.

 

Court records showed Cooper on Nov. 28 pleaded guilty to a felony charge of the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance - specifically, one gram but less than 14 grams of heroin.

 

Judge Daniel P. Guerin, who presided over the case, placed Cooper on three years of probation, said Paul Darrah, spokesman for State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin. Guerin also ordered Cooper to enroll in the Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities, or TASC, program, Darrah said.

 

Agents of the Naperville police Special Operations Group and Intel Unit early last year received information from citizens about heroin being sold on city streets. Bolton and Cooper, at the time of their arrests, had in their possession 15 small plastic bags of a substance that field-tested positive for heroin.

 

Bolton was pronounced dead about 11:55 a.m. Sept. 5 in his and Cooper’s home. An Aurora police spokesman in September said Bolton’s death resulted from a drug overdose.

 

Documents on file in the DuPage County and Will County court systems indicated neither Cooper nor Bolton had a significant criminal record.
