(WASHINGTON) Zachary Fardon, a Chicago attorney who was part of the trial team for Gov. George Ryan, has been nominated to be the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. Fardon was one of four finalists to be considered by Senators Mark Kirk and Dick Durbin. The other finalists were Lori Lightfoot, Gil Stoffer, and Jonathan Bunge.
“Zachary Fardon will be unwavering in his commitment to justice and I am confident he will serve the people of Illinois with excellence," President Obama said with his nomination.
Kirk says he is "thrilled Zachary Fardon is our nominee to be the next U.S. Attorney" and he is an excellent pick to continue Patrick Fitzgerald's tradition to aggressively prosecute criminals as well as lead the fight against gangs and gun violence.
Durbin touts Fardon's experience and says "it will serve him well in a city and region as diverse and challenging as the Northern District."
Fardon's nomination will now be reviewed by the Senate Judiciary Committee and then voted on. If it passes the committee, the nomination will be sent to the full Senate for a vote.
