TORY
Tory is a handsome 10-month old black Labrador Retriever mix.  He is very social and loves being around people.  Tory likes to jump in your lap (he doesn’t know he’s a big dog) to be petted, belly rubs please!  He likes chomping on chew on toys and lights up when told he’s a good boy. This big-hearted pup enjoys going for walks, car rides, and trips to the dog park.  He’d make an amazing companion to the lucky adopter or family that scoops him up.

Meet Tory today at the PAWS Chicago Lincoln Park Adoption Center, located at 1997 N. Clybourn Avenue in Chicago. For more information, visit pawschicago.org or call 773-935-PAWS.

Mitsy and Mellie are the sweetest feline sisters you’ll ever meet! These gorgeous one-year-old girls are a bonded pair who are looking to find a home together!  They’d love nothing more than a lap to call their own to curl up in and snuggle.  Mitsy and Mellie were originally adopted together as kittens but were brought back to PAWS when their owner moved out of the country and couldn’t bring them with. But now they’re ready to find them forever home! Mitsy and Mellie have stolen the hearts of volunteers at the PAWS Chicago North Shore Adoption Center and can’t wait to steal yours!

PAWS pet of the week: Trudi!

Are you looking for a social senior? Trudie is the girl for you! She’s a lovely six year old who is ready to binge watch movies all day with you. She loves a good nap and an ear scratch. Trudie loves getting to know dogs that are similar to her size and can often be found having play dates with select dogs at PAWS.

This friendly lady is looking for a quiet home to relax in. Trudie is not a fan of crowded areas with lots of people and dogs. She would do best in a home with family members 15 and older where she can lounge in her quite forever home. Trudie is dog friendly but prefers a formal introduction when getting to know a new friend.

PAWS pet of the week: Demi!

DEMI

Demi is a sweet 6-year-old Pointer Mix who had a rough start before she came to PAWS Chicago. Poor Demi was in a critical state after injuring her back leg trying to climb a barbed wire fence. Demi needed two corrective surgeries to repair the damage and was in a lot of pain, but thankfully this strong girl pulled through. Demi spent a month in recovery at PAWS Chicago’s Medical Center where she received laser treatments, antibiotics, and special care for the medical staff. She is now ready to complete her story and find a home to call her own! Demi hopes to find a family that will love and spoil her endlessly.

For more information on Demi, who is currently spending time in a foster home, call 773-935-PAWS, or email [email protected].

PAWS pet of the week: Pippa!

PIPPA

Pippa is a gorgeous 6-year-old Calico who is ready to find a quiet and calm household where she can enjoy life to the fullest. This cutie pie spent her whole life in a loving home but was returned by her owners suddenly.  She has been understandably scared and confused by the abrupt change and fearful since her arrival. With a lot of patience, love, and encouragement, Pippa is sure to open up to her humans and become a wonderful kitty companion.  This sweetheart deserves to be spoiled with affection!

Pippa hopes to find an adults-only home where she can enjoy the good life as the only pet. From her previous home, we know that Pippa enjoyed spending her days relaxing with her humans and curling up on their laps to watch television.  She is a laid-back kitty who is perfectly content with lounging around in a sunny spot or perching in the window to watch the birds fly by. Pippa is bound to show her true colors once she is given all the time she needs to learn that the world isn’t so scary after all.

For more information on Pippa, who is currently spending time in a foster home, call 773-935-PAWS, or email [email protected].

PAWS pet of the week: Harold & Kumar!

Harold & Kumar (bonded pair):

The best things come in twos! Harold and Kumar are a bonded pair looking for a home together. Often found snuggling together or chasing a toy mouse, these sweet boys are a volunteer favorite at PAWS Chicago. Eight-year-old Harold is crazy about people. This sweet boy will immediately climb into your lap and melt all your cares away. His best buddy Kumar is a four-year-old orange sweetheart! Kumar is a bit shyer than Harold and prefers to spend his time relaxing or napping in his favorite spots. These boys are both FIV+, which means they should either be the only cats in the home or live with other FIV+ kitties.  None of this stops these two boys, they are cute as buttons and have so much love to give to the right family!

To learn more about Harold & Kumar or to learn more about FIV, email [email protected] or call 773-935-PAWS.

PAWS Pet of the Week: Karl

KARL
Karl is one handsome boy, and he hopes his good looks can help him find a family to call his own. This 1-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier can be a bit timid around strangers, but once he gets to know you, he loves to be petted and snuggled all day long. Despite his dapper looks, Karl loves to play, and turns into a huge goofball during playtime! When he’s not playing, Karl can be quite lazy, and enjoys stretching out in a sunny spot for a nap. Karl would do best in an active, adults-only home with an experienced owner who can continue his training. While he’s already mastered some tricks, this smart pup hopes to keep his brain busy by learning even more.

Karl, along with many other adorable dogs and cats, will be available for adoption today at noon at the PAWS Chicago Lincoln Park Adoption Center, located at 1997 N. Clybourn Avenue in Chicago.  For more information call 773-935-PAWS or visit www.pawschicago.org.

PAWS pet of the week: Myrtle!

MYRTLE

Myrtle is passionate about exercise and being constantly on the move! This three-year-old Beagle mix hopes to find someone who shares her active lifestyle and enthusiasm for living life to the fullest. There’s no question about it, Myrtle is one of the peppiest dogs at PAWS Chicago. Myrtle is very food motivated and always willing to work for her treats in training class.

Myrtle is searching for a home with an experienced owner and without young children. A home with a backyard would be a bonus for Myrtle so she can have her own space to run around and enjoy the outdoors. Some of Myrtle’s favorite fun activities include playing tug of war and eating tons of creamy peanut butter!  She is so deserving of a loving forever home and is always eager to please!

Myrtle will be one of the many dogs and cats who will have a WAIVED adoption fee this weekend during our Summer Lovin’ event, where we are waiving fees for some of our longest term residents. The event will take place at the Lincoln Park Adoption Center on Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29 from 11am-6pm.  To see the eligible dogs and cats, visit www.pawschicago.org/adopt. By rallying the community and generating more adoptions, PAWS is able to take in and save more dogs and cats from high-risk shelters.

PAWS pet of the week: Nina!

NINA

Nina is a beautiful Lab/Terrier mix who is looking for a family that loves adventure as much as she does. At 10-months-old, Nina loves to be out and about, whether that’s your morning jog or a car ride with the windows down!  Nina is an active girl who needs lots of exercise, and a backyard to play in would be a huge plus for her. Though she’s an energetic girl, Nina is a cuddle bug at heart and loves to be the center of everyone’s love and affection. When she’s not playing fetch or snuggling with her human friends, Nina is putting her brain to work in training class! She’s already mastered a few tricks, like sit, stay, and roll over, but she’s beyond exciting to learn even more! Nina is still learning how to be a lady on a leash, so she will need a confident and experienced owner who can help her become the best pup she can be!

Poor Brie was abandoned by her previous owner, but now has a second chance at finding a loving home at PAWS Chicago. Brie would love to find a patient and experienced adopter who will be able to give her the time she needs to adjust to her new surroundings. Once she gains confidence in her home, she becomes a sweet and affectionate kitty who enjoys head pets, play time, and treats!

Brie is searching for a quiet home without young children and where she can feel safe and secure. Some of her favorite toys are mice, wand toys, and her most favorite of all- laser pointers! Brie also loves wet food and will gobble it up in seconds. If you’re looking for a kitty who is a huge foodie, but also enjoys exercise and affection, then Brie is your girl!

PAWS Pet of the Week: Ruby!

Say hello to Ruby, a loveable, outgoing 7-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix.  Ruby is quite the charmer with her adorable personality and sweet demeanor.  Soon after arriving at PAWS Chicago, she started having trouble walking and was suspected to have Acute Canine Idiopathic Polyradiculoneuritis, which is a creeping paralysis due to inflammation of the nerves. Thankfully, Ruby is a fighter and responded well to her treatment and physical therapy.  She can walk like a champ again!

Ruby has been spending time in a wonderful foster home who says she is a very easygoing girl whose ideal day would be spent sitting in your lap, playing with plush squeaky toys, snacking, and napping in a cozy dog bed.  She enjoys soaking up all the attention and would love to be the only pet in an adults-only home.  Her foster mom says Ruby “has the most unique personality.  She constantly tries to put her head under your hand, and overall just wants to be with you.  If you are looking for a dog that will happily be your companion and snuggle all the time, pick Ruby!  She gets so excited when you come home and is the happiest little pup on earth.  She is also extremely affectionate and loves to give kisses and have her belly rubbed.”

Ruby is housebroken and walks well on a leash.  Despite all she has been through, Ruby has the most positive outlook on life and is happy as can be.  She would love to find a human best friend who will love her unconditionally and give her the wonderful life she deserves.  PAWS is committed to finding the perfect home for every animal in their adoption program. If you adopt Ruby, not only will you get a lifetime of love, you will also receive a year of free Merrick Pet Care dog food and a free training consultation with a PAWS Chicago trainer. For more information or to schedule a time to meet Ruby, email [email protected] or call 773-935-PAWS.

John and Ray’s PAWS Pet of the Week: Barcelona!

Barcelona is a handsome one-year-old Chihuahua mix who is looking for a family to dazzle with his good looks. He is brilliant in training classes and already knows a few commands. Barcelona would love to continue learning and showing off! He would also enjoy being your co-pilot on a nice drive or walk through the neighborhood.  He can get a bit distracted by the excitement of the world, so quieter streets without a lot of dog traffic are his preference.  This little gentleman loves his human and his home so much he prefers not to share them and would do best in a home with no children or other pets.  He has so much love to give and hopes his new owner will be home often to spend time with him.

Barcelona is currently enjoying time in a foster home. To learn more about Barcelona or to make an appointment to meet her, call 773-935-PAWS or email [email protected].

UPDATE: Post: Dog stolen from West Loop apartment returned to PAWS Chicago

(CHICAGO) A dog that was stolen from a West Loop apartment ten days ago was returned to a shelter on Wednesday, according to a Facebook post by its owner.

A photo of Barnaby was posted to a Facebook page dedicated to him after he was reportedly found. | Facebook
A photo of Barnaby was posted to a Facebook page dedicated to him after he was reportedly found. | Facebook

Last week, 30-year-old Adam Johnston, who lives by himself in the apartment near Lake and Canal streets, said his unit was broken into between 1:19 p.m. and 1:36 p.m. Monday, May 18.

He came home about 5 p.m. but Barnaby, a 6-year-old West Highland white terrier, was not in his usual place on the couch, Johnston said.

Johnston said he noticed someone had pried the apartment door open “with a screwdriver or something,” and realized someone had stolen the dog.

The building’s surveillance video footage shows a car pulling up to the building’s garage, a man getting out of the passenger side and walking through the parking garage. A few minutes later the man walks outside carrying Barnaby under his arm and gets back in the vehicle, which then drives off.

Nothing else was stolen from the apartment, Johnston said.

“They were coming for my dog and they only took my dog,” Johnston said last week. “There’s a tablet worth $1,000 right there and they didn’t touch it.”

On Wednesday, a post on a Facebook page titled “Find Barnaby” reported that Barnaby was dropped off to PAWS Chicago after a woman saw someone matching the alleged thief’s description at a Petco.

“[The woman] tried to get a phone photo, but he spooked and left immediately without buying anything. Late this afternoon, a man (different from the suspect) brought Barnaby into PAWS. We think maybe the suspect was spooked at having been recognized, but really don’t know for sure.”

Johnston had offered a $5,000 reward for Barnaby’s return with no questions asked. The “Find Barnaby” account replied to a comment on Wednesday saying the investigation was ongoing.
