(Chicago) Governor Quinn has called a special session of the general assembly on January 8th to deal with how the late Judy Baar Topinka should be replaced and the reaction has caused a legal mess.
Pat Quinn wants the legislature to pass a law setting a 2016 election for comptroller. The Rauner camp claims that’s likely unconstitutional because an amendment to the constitution is necessary for that. Republican legislative leaders Radogno and Durkin say Rauner should get to appoint a comptroller for the full four year term.
They are not cooperating like Topinka’s son Joe said they should at Wednesday’s memorial service, “I urge Governor Quinn and Governor-elect Rauner to work together over the next few weeks on a smooth transition, and over the next few years to make Illinois a better place. I know Abraham Lincoln would have wanted it that way, and so would have mom.”
So much for what Joe wants.
