Eight charged in South Side dog fighting ring

(CHICAGO) Eight people were charged after Chicago Police interrupted a dog fighting ring on the South Side Sunday night.

About 7:30 p.m., police received a complaint of dog fighting in the 6600 block of South Winchester. Responding officers found four pit bulls “with wounds consistent with dog fighting” and a dog fighting ring inside a residence, police said.

The Chicago Department of Animal Care and Control took the four pit bulls into custody, police said.

The following people were all charged with one felony count of dog fighting, police said:

•    Taylon Hughes, 24, of the 7800 block of South Kingston;

•    Shaquille Middleton, 20, of the 3900 block of Timberlea Court in Country Club Hills;

•    Charles Ray, 28, of the 2600 block of East 74th Place;

•    Arnulfo Sanchez, 37, of the 15100 block of Turlington in Harvey;

•    Sabrina Morris, 44, William Hill, 18, and Jimmie Kelly, 59, all of the 6600 block of South Winchester

Middleton was also charged with animal torture and was ordered held without bond, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.

His next court date is scheduled for Wednesday.

Jawaan Chick, 22, of the 200 block of Providence in Matteson was charged with one felony count of dog fighting using machine, according to police and the Cook County sheriff’s office.

Bond for Morris, Hughes, Kelly, Ray and Hill was set at $10,000, and they are all expected back in court Jan. 26, according to the sheriff’s office.

Court information for Chick and Sanchez was not immediately available Tuesday morning.
