(CHICAGO) The Big Ten Conference has filed for an injunction against a college life-theme website that, the conference alleges, infringes upon their copyrighted brand.
The motion was filed Tuesday in U.S. District court against Big10Tens.com, a site that features articles, lists, videos and photo galleries with various college-related themes.
The Big Ten alleges the site has committed “willful trademark infringement, trademark dilution by blurring and tarnishment [sic] and common law unfair competition.”
In the filing, the conference specifically points to the site “promoting social aspects of college life,” including “binge drinking, drug use and partial nudity,” all while maintaining a likeness to trademarks held by the Big Ten.
Steve Gazibara, the site’s founder, was named as a defendant and did not respond to requests for comment.
The five-count filing alleges copyright infringement and seeks to bar Big10Tens.com from using any likeness to the Big Ten.
