(MONTGOMERY) Ten students were taken to hospitals after an accident involving a school bus Friday morning in west suburban Montgomery.
The crash happened about 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of Mayfield Drive and Orchard Road, according to a statement from Community Unit School District 308.
The bus, carrying 31 elementary school students and the driver, was en route to Boulder Hill Elementary at the time of the crash.
A total of 10 students were injured and taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora for “treatment and evaluation,” the statement said.
All parents of students on the bus were notified and those students who were not inured were taken to school on another bus or released to their parents.
School District 308 staff was on the scene immediately to manage the situation. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matthew Wendt and other administrators met the students at Rush Copley.
“The safety and welfare of our students is our primary concern,” Supt. Matthew Welsh said in the statement.
Details of the accident were not immediately available. Montgomery and Oswego police are investigating.
