(CHICAGO) A Southwest Airlines flight had to return to the gate before takeoff at Midway International Airport Friday morning, the second time one of the airline’s flights has experienced issues at the airport this week.
The flight aborted takeoff at Midway about 6 a.m., according to FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Cory.
Flight 4384, bound for Philadelphia International Airport, returned to the gate before takeoff after the pilot of another Southwest plane reported seeing potential signs of a mechanical issue, Southwest spokeswoman Emily Samuels said in a statement.
Emergency vehicles followed the plane to the gate, and 136 passengers were deplaned, Samuels said. The plane remains in maintenance, although initial reviews revealed no indications of anything abnormal.
Passengers from the flight took off for Philadelphia about two hours behind schedule in a different aircraft, according to Southwest.
Cory said the FAA is investigating the incident, as it does any time there is an abnormality with a flight.
A Southwest plane headed for Boston had to abort Wednesday night after one of its engines caught fire during takeoff, according to Chicago Fire Department officials.
