(CHICAGO) Officers responding to a call of shots fired near Kedzie and Carroll about 10:30 p.m. saw a minivan driving erratically southbound on Kedzie, according to Chicago Police.
One of the minivan’s occupants then fired shots at another vehicle, and officers pursued the minivan until it ran a red light and hit two cars in the 5900 block of South Western, police said.
The driver of the minivan and four people from the other cars were taken to Stroger and Holy Cross hospitals in good condition after the crash, police said at the time.
Four people were arrested after the crash, including Carl Jenkins, 26, of the 1000 block of Lowe Avenue in Chicago Heights; 22-year-old Jodie Christian of the 2000 block of West 70th Street; Traveon Elbert of the 15200 block of Chicago Road in Dolton; and a 17-year-old boy, police said.
After their arrest, they were identified as the suspects who had earlier tried to rob a 28-year-old man at gunpoint in the 3200 block of West Carroll, police said. Elbert also had a controlled substance, according to police.
Jenkins and Christian, who were in bond court Thursday, were each charged with one felony count of attempted vehicular carjacking with the discharge of a firearm, four felony counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and four felony counts of attempted armed robbery, police said.
Jenkins was ordered held on a $250,000 bond, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. Christian’s bond was set at $200,000.
