It’s Governor’s Day at the Illinois State Fair and Bruce Rauner rallied the faithful with a firebrand speech.
Protesters booing and shouting nearby couldn’t drown out the red meat Rauner tossed to the cheering crowd of Republicans after he rode up on his Harley.
“With twelve years of Democrat rule from the Chicago political machine, they’ve devastated us,” said Governor Bruce Rauner. “They have devastated us with debt, deficit, high taxes, unfunded schools, cronyism, corruption, self-dealin’ [sic] . They’ve created a mess from one-party rule, from King Madigan and the Chicago political machine and you know what? The Republican Party is strong. We’re coming back, we’re gonna [sic] become a two-party state, again, and restore the principles that make Illinois great,” said Rauner.
Conspicuously absent from the GOP’s big day at the state fair was embattled Senator Mark Kirk who’s in a tough battle for re-election.
