(CHICAGO) Republican Congressman Bob Dold, who represents the Fox River area, was on WLS this morning to pledge support for the family of slain Fox River Police Lieutenant Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, who was shot dead Tuesday morning.
Dold told “The Big John Howell Show” that Gliniwiecz was a “fabric of the community….a hero. A guy that was engaged and you couldn’t go to an event up in Fox Lake and not run into Joe. What we have is a community right now that is reeling, due to the loss of someone that has been a 30 year fixture on the police force. Someone that has been looked up to by others on the force and was close to retirement. So our heart breaks and goes out to his wife, his four sons, the entire police force, and the Fox Lake community”.
Dold also admits that the job of the police is more difficult because they do not have precise descriptions of the three suspects, described only as two white men and one African American. “It obviously poses a tremendous burden and barrier in terms of trying to make sure that we’re bringing these three men to justice. We know basically what was reported in when Joe Gliniewicz actually called in for backup. But it does make it very difficult. We want to make sure that people are vigilant, aware, alert. We are still in the midst of trying to find these three individuals. So it is important that people who are listening stay on alert until we’re able to apprehend these three folks, but I have to tell you that the community in general is going to rally together, on behalf of the Gliniwicz family”.
There are plans for a public vigil tonight for Lt. Gliniewicz at 6:00 PM at Lakefront Park, 71 Nippersink Blvd, Fox Lake.
