The foot was found around 4:40 p.m. near the lagoon, in the 200 block of North McCrea Drive, according to Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago Police Department spokesman. Investigators then found other remains as well.

“We are searching the lagoon for human remains,” Anthony Guglielmi, the chief police spokesman, said late Saturday. “No word yet on how any of this happened.”

As officers worked and kept people at a distance, a spotlight could be seen shining on the lagoon Saturday night, and an officer was on hand with a police dog.

“This will likely carry into morning as they will continue to search in daylight,” Guglielmi said.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, Ald. Jason Ervin (28th) said the police were ending the search for the night and would return at daylight.

“Hopefully, we can find the family,” Ervin said. “I know that somebody is going through something.”
