Booze will not be flowing at the Indiana Dunes State Park after the state turned down a developers request to bring a restaurant, bar and banquet hall to the beachfront.
Indiana’s Alcohol and Tobacco Commission has sided with a Porter County board to deny a license to Chuck Williams, a big Republican donor who had multi-million dollar plans to rehabilitate and build out the park’s pavilion.
Listen to Nick Gale’s report:
Williams says the 4-0 vote against his request puts the whole project in peril. The Porter County board had previously voted 3-1 saying the bar services weren’t needed in the community.
Williams had worked for years on the project and publicly announced his plans last March. Since then he has come under fire with some saying he was using his political clout to get a state deal.
Williams, a high-ranking Republican Party official, denies politics played a role in is plan.
He can appeal the decision and has the option to take the matter to court.
