(CHICAGO) A motorcyclist went through a red light and struck two people as they were crossing Lake Shore Drive Monday night near Grant Park, killing a woman and sending a man and cyclist to the hospital in serious condition, according to Chicago Police.
About 10:25 p.m., the motorcycle rode between stopped cars in the 700 block of South Lake Shore Drive and struck a man and woman as they were crossing the street, according to Chicago Police.
The woman, 25, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. The woman is from Germany and authorities are tracking down her relatives to notify them of her death, according to the medical examiner’s office. Her name has not been released.
The 41-year-old man was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.
The motorcyclist, 20-year-old Charles Lyons of the 9400 block of South Spaulding, was also injured and was taken in serious condition to Northwestern, police said. He remains hospitalized Wednesday morning.
He has been issued citations for disobeying a red light, no valid motorcycle classification, no valid driver’s license, no insurance, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to yield to a pedestrian in the roadway, and improper lane usage, police said.
The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate and charges are possible, police said.
