(CHICAGO) More than $2 million worth of bad speeding tickets have been issued according to a Chicago Tribune investigation. Some 110,000 speed camera tickets were supposedly issued when the cameras were supposed to be turned off or the signage on the approach to them was faulty.
But when asked about it, Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s response was to say that the speed cameras are working.
“Nobody likes getting a speeding ticket but that said it has had the impact on changing people’s driving behavior and practices because by, I think it’s, I’m doing this by memory, around 80-percent of people near schools change their behavior, and that’s also true for about 60 some-odd percent around parks,” Emanuel said.
The Mayor adds that when mistakes are made there is a process for drivers to get their checks back.
