(CHICAGO) A Chicago Fire Fighter has died from injuries sustained while fighting a blaze on the South Side this morning.
Officials say 15-year-veteran firefighter Daniel Capuano was battling the fire in a three story factory in the 9200 block of South Baltimore this morning when he called MAYDAY.
“Firefighter fell through an elevator shaft on the second floor to the basement,” said Commissioner Jose Santiago. “Firefighters quickly located and removed [him] to a waiting ambulance where he was taken to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.”
The 42-year-old leaves behind a wife and three children.
The building had been under construction. Firefighters initially responded to the fire about 2:40 this morning. The blaze was struck out just before 4 a.m.
