(CHICAGO) The Chicago Police Officer charged in the shooting death of Laquan McDonald appears in court today.
Officer Jason Van Dyke, who’s charged with first degree murder in McDonald’s death, is set to appear in court this morning where he will be assessed by one judge then arraigned by another.
Van Dykes attorney Daniel Herbert has said that his client feared for his life after he came upon McDonald who had PCP in his system and was wielding a knife and had been slashing at cars.
A dash cam captured Van Dyke firing 16 shots at the 17 year old. He has been free on bond.
Herbert has said he wants a change of venue for his client.
