(CHICAGO) Mayor Emanuel is asking aldermen to raise taxes again.
This time it’s another 90 cents on a cigar, $1.80 per ounce on smokeless tobacco and $6.60 per ounce of roll your own tobacco.
Four years ago Rahm sounded less inclined to go to taxpayers so often.
“I don’t want the taxpayers of the city of Chicago to be treated as if they’re just an ATM machine. They’re not,” Emanuel said four years ago. “They work hard for their money and we have to respect it.”

But now the mayor is asking for these tobacco taxes to pay for new programs to better prepare 8th graders for high school.
