Another Weekend of Closures for Byrne Flyover

(CHICAGO) Just because it is winter in Chicago, that doesn’t mean that Kennedy, Eisenhower and Dan Ryan commuters are getting a break from construction work on the Jane Byrne (Circle) Interchange.

In a news release from the Illinois Department of Transportation, the organization announced that the ramp from the inbound Kennedy Expressway (EB I-90/94) to the outbound Eisenhower Expressway (WB I-290) will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, to 4 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, weather permitting.

This closure is part of the ongoing Jane Byrne Interchange Project, which began in September 2013, and is planned to be completed in Summer 2018.

The closure is necessary for construction of the pier needed for the new flyover ramp linking the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway (WB I-90/94) to the outbound Eisenhower Expressway (WB I-290).

There will be a posted detour directing motorists to the 18th street exit, where they will cross over the bridge to return to the Dan Ryan, only in the inbound direction. From there, they can access the outbound Eisenhower on the ramp which was previously under construction this past fall.

Work will continue throughout the winter months, as long as the weather cooperates with the planned roadwork. Heavy snow, ice and extreme cold temperatures are factors which have halted construction in the past.
