Federal prosecutors say 34-year-old Vandetta Redwood has been indicted on charges that she supplied her 14-year-old niece with the handgun the girl allegedly used to kill 14-year-old Endia Martin in 2014. The two had gotten into an argument online over a boy.
The U.S. Attorney’s office here in Chicago charged Redwood with transferring a firearm to a juvenile knowing the girl intended to use it in a violent crime. Redwood pleaded not guilty Thursday and was ordered held without bond.
Redwood had been charged in Cook County court with obstruction of justice and mob action but a judge threw out the charges.
Redwood’s brother was convicted of first-degree murder and attempted murder charges for his involvement. He has yet to be sentenced.
Redwood’s niece faces a murder charge in juvenile court.
