(SPRINGFIELD) Gov. Bruce Rauner delivered his annual budget address to the legislature and the governor was sounding a little different in the deadlock.
Rauner told state lawmakers it’s time to make a choice: compromise with new cuts, taxes and some of his reforms or big cuts, although he promised to make an exception to cutting school aid and early childhood education.
And there was a new tone to Rauner’s remarks.
“Ladies and gentleman, the paths before us are well defined. Now it’s time to choose,” Rauner said. “With my hand outstretched, with a genuine desire to compromise with respect, I humbly ask you to join me in transforming our state for the better.”
So Rauner stopped the name-calling, but it’s still unlikely the Democrats would give him the anti-union changes he wants.
