Chicago firefighters responded to Trump Tower Thursday morning to a report of a fire on the 50th floor.
District Chief Timothy Sampey says when firefighters arrived just after 9 a.m. they found smoke and a small fire in a trash compactor on the 50th floor.
Once they determined the extent of the fire, residence were told to remain in place.
“The building is built to keep the occupants safe and to assist the fire department in extinguishing the fire and the building did what it was supposed to do,” Sampey said.

Sampey says there was minimal smoke and water amage. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was injured.
Wabash Ave. was closed to traffic roughly two hours.
