Police warn of child luring attempt in Portage Park

(CHICAGO) Chicago police are cautioning residents of the Portage Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side after a child luring attempt was reported Monday evening.

Two girls were walking in the 5200 block of West Agatite about 5:10 p.m. Monday when they saw a minivan park behind them, according to an alert from Area North detectives. The man driving then got out and chased the girls “for a short distance” on Agatite before the two were able to flee the area.

The man was described as white or Hispanic, between 30 and 35 years old, standing 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, police said. He has a thin build, short beard and was wearing an orange knit hat, green winter coat and blue jeans.

He was driving a clean, older green minivan that had tinted windows, police said.

Anyone with information on the man is asked to call Area Central detectives at (312) 744-8200.
