(CHICAGO) In the Chicago school financial crisis, CPS has announced another round of layoffs.
This time it’s another $85 millions worth of cuts with 62 employees getting laid-off including 17 teachers.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel blames lack of action in Springfield.
“We’re making, unfortunately, very difficult choices trying to preserve any cuts from the class room and yet districts with a concentration of poor kids are losing money from the State of Illinois,” Emanuel said. “That is upside down.”
So, what does Governor Bruce Rauner say?
“No teacher should have to lose his or her job. We need to redo the contracts and redo the debt under court supervision,” Rauner said.
And there’s no end in sight to the impasse.
