The numbers just seem to keep getting worse. Chicago had 40 murders during the month of February. Chicago’s murder rate so far in 2016 is the worst in nearly two decades. Some experts are blaming the dramatic decrease in the number of street stops so far this year. Police are now required to full out much more paperwork for every street stop, in an effort to win back public trust in the wake of incidents like the Laquan McDonald shooting.
