Following the nomination – Kirk released a statement saying the Senate’s constitutionally defined role to provide advice and consent is as important as the president’s role in proposing a nominee.
Earlier this month, Kirk spoke with The Big John Howell Show on WLS.
“In my view we should give the nominee a hearing and vote up or down and make sure that we make a decision in front of the American people on whether this nominee is qualified to be on the Supreme Court,” Kirk said at the time.
Garland was born in Chicago and raised in Lincolnwood. He graduated from Niles West High School in Skokie as the class valedictorian. He later went on to Harvard Law School.
