(CHICAGO) An off-duty Chicago Police officer was shot early Monday in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the Far South Side, authorities said.
The shooting was reported shortly before 3 a.m. in the 10100 block of South Green, said Larry Merritt, spokesman for the Independent Police Review Authority, which investigates all police-involved shootings in the city.
One person suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg was taken from the scene to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Walter Schroeder. That person was listed in fair-to-serious condition.
Shots were fired by the officer, but it was not immediately known whether anyone was struck, Merritt said. Additional details were not available.
