(CHICAGO) It is officially spring in Chicago, which means that it is road construction commencement for the metro.
On Monday, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced various roadwork projects in both the city of Chicago and surrounding areas.
Beginning Monday, March 28th, a new Lake Shore Drive/Interstate 55 Interchange Project configuration will take place. The far right-hand lane of southbound LSD will be the only lane accessible to the outbound Stevenson. As noted in an IDOT release:
- Beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, the far right lane on southbound Lake Shore Drive will be closed before 18th Street. At 9 p.m., the far right lane reopens. The ramp to the Stevenson Expressway will be accessible until 1 a.m.
- Beginning at 1 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, a full closure will take place on the ramp from southbound Lake Shore Drive to the outbound Stevenson Expressway until 5 a.m. A detour will direct traffic to continue southbound on Lake Shore Drive and exit at 31st Street. Drivers should reenter northbound Lake Shore Drive and use the ramp that connects northbound Lake Shore Drive to the outbound Stevenson Expressway.
Starting Friday, April 1st, Higgins Road (Illinois 72) and Big Timber Road, in unincorporated Kane County will see intermittent, daytime lane closures for intersection improvements including left and right turn lanes and new traffic signals.
