(CHICAGO) In the flap over how to select a Chicago Police Superintendent, behind the scenes at City Hall, they’re trying to change the rules.
When a little thing like the law gets in the way of ruling Democrats, they just change the law. In the current case, Mayor Emanuel is ready to change the ordinance that requires him to pick a new police superintendent from three candidates recommended by the Police Board.
“We have a very good person in Eddie Johnson who garners support across a spectrum of people from literally the head of FOP to the rank and file of the police department, from the beat officer all the way up to the command staff and also religious and community leaders. We need to move forward so Eddie and his team can be totally focused on safety and security,” Emanuel said.
So the aldermen are hatching a plan to let Rahm drop the “interim” label from Eddie Johnson’s title with perhaps as much as two-thirds of the 50 aldermen voting to confirm him.
