(SKOKIE) One person was killed when a CTA Yellow Line train struck a vehicle Monday morning in north suburban Skokie.
The vehicle was southbound on East Prairie Road near a grade crossing when it was struck by an eastbound Yellow Line train at 10:21 a.m., according to Skokie police.
A female in the vehicle was taken to Skokie Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, a statement from police said. Another occupant was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.
Five passengers on the train were taken to hospitals with injuries, police said.
Service on the Yellow Line remains suspended as of 12:30 p.m., according to the CTA. Commuters are advised to use No. 97 Skokie buses as an alternative, and shuttle buses are operating through the area.
The North Regional Major Crime Task Force Major Crash Assistance Team is assisting Skokie police with the investigation.
