Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle unveiled a plan to redevelop the old Cook County Hospital building on Wednesday. They’d turn it into apartments, a hotel and retail space.
The Chicago Department of Buildings has issued a “Notice of Violation and Summons” to the building that houses the Chicago Republican Party over a sign the party erected earlier this year. The sign was found to be in violation of a Chicago ordinance that requires that a business first seek permission from the City to display a sign. The party says this is a First Amendment issue. A Chicagoland family has taken it upon themselves to find a donor for a loved one, and their efforts have gained the attention of people all over the state, thanks to Facebook. 54-year-old Stewart Botsford learned he was in Stage 4 Renal Failure and needed a kidney. But the waiting list was three to five years long. Laura Botsford turned her family’s car into a rolling billboard looking for a live donor. She joined John to talk about her family’s story. Chicago Police made 6 year old Madison Pruitt an honorary police officer. Madison is battling a rare muscle cancer but says she wants to be a police officer one day.
Ted Cruz was scheduled to speak at Bronx Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy until students wrote a letter to the principal asking her not to let Cruz come, prompting staffers to cancel the appearance. The letter called Cruz “misogynistic, homophobic, and racist.” During another Bronx appearance, Cruz talked about the benefits of charter schools and the need for school choice.
Florida Governor Rick Scott decided it was a good idea to stop in his local Starbucks and get a tasty caffeinated beverage. He was wrong. A woman started to absolutely berate him in front of all of the other Starbucks patrons.
