(CHICAGO) In the Springfield deadlock, there’s a new glimmer of hope for a possible compromise between Gov. Bruce Rauner and House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago).
There’s a slightly conciliatory column in the Springfield paper today in which Rauner says we all have to work together in new negotiations to make Illinois compassionate and competitive.
Mayor Emanuel, who’s got big solutions stuck in the Springfield standoff, kinda likes the sound of compassionate and competitive.
“The general thrust of being both compassionate and helping those less advantaged is also complementary to being competitive because when you invest in people regardless where they are in life you’re going to be very competitive and the great strength of the City of Chicago and the great strength of the people of Illinois, is the people that make up this state and make up the city,” Emanuel said.
Nothing may come of all this, but maybe compromise is possible before the legislative deadline at the end of May.
