(CHICAGO) Park officials say the Indiana Dunes will remain closed this summer.
It’s a close getaway for those in the Chicago area, but it will remain closed this summer as scientists work to determine why a 6-year-old boy was nearly buried alive back in 2013.
Scientists are looking at 120 foot tall Mount Baldy in particular but the work will continue through the fall. Other parts of the lakeshore will be open however.
Nathan Woessner of Sterling survived after being swallowed into a hole where he was trapped for three hours under 11 feet of sand. He spent nearly two weeks in the hospital recovering before he was released.
