(CHICAGO) Chicago police shot and killed an armed bank robbery suspect Monday morning in the Archer Heights neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
Police Supt. Eddie Johnson says officers responded to an alarm at Byline Bank around 10:30 a.m. A bank security officer had given chase when CPD officers joined in, in the 4900-block of S. Karlov.
“The officers chased the subject down a gangway at which time the subject turned towards officers with a weapon. One of the officers discharged his weapon, striking the offender,” Johnson said. “The offender was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced.”
Police are investigating if the suspect was also responsible for a bank robbery that happened over the weekend.
The FBI is investigating the bank robbery while the Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.
