(SCHAUMBURG) A Schaumburg woman who killed her disabled daughter and then tried to commit suicide will have to wait to learn her sentence.
Bonnie Liltz was initially charged with first-degree murder after giving her 28-year old daughter an overdose of medication last year. She cut a deal and pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
Courtney Liltz had cerebral palsy. Bonnie Litz’s lawyer says his client took care of her daughter’s every need, was facing her own battle with cancer, and with no one to help her, couldn’t imagine her daughter being put put in an institution, “She couldn’t bear the thought of her child sitting in her own filth, sitting in clothes that were covered with drool, wet hair, dirty, and pushed into a corner, ” said attorney Thomas Glasgow.
The judge, who says he will announce the sentence next week, could give the Schaumburg mother anywhere from probation to 14 years in prison.
Prosecutors have recommended four years probation and mental health treatment.
