(CHICAGO) On Friday, over 1,000 military veterans and supports took part in the Ruck of Honor: A Tribute To Our Fallen Heroes, a 22 mile ruck march to raise awareness on PTSD and Veteran suicide.
Each day there are roughly 22 suicides among our Veterans and Active Duty. The march, which takes place in many cities across the country, raises funds for local non-profits who have supported Veterans and their families.
The Chicago event began in Glencoe at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27 and concluded at Chicago’s Navy Pier.
WLS-AM 890’s Jen DeSalvo caught up with and followed Team Fubar, a group of Veterans made up of Kristen Cohen, Ryan Glin, Monika Martinez, Bob Trofimchuk and Joe Holloway. The crew raised over $2,500 to be donated to Chicago veterans, and completed the march just after 4:00 p.m.
In addition to the lengthy march, the participants carried packs weighing upwards of 40 pounds as a soldier in combat would.
Michele Kwok of Northbrook, Ill. also walked as part of Team Fubar as a supporter. She stated via Facebook, “Today was dedicated to my childhood friend and neighbor Danny Solit.”
