(CHESTER, IL) Former Bolingbrook cop Drew Peterson, who is already serving time behind bars for the death of his third wife, has been found guilty in a murder for hire case.
Peterson, who made national headlines when his fourth wife went missing and was later found guilty of killing his third wife, has been found guilty of trying to hire a hitman to take out Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow. Glasgow personally prosecuted Peterson for the death of Peterson’s third wife Kathleen Savio.
A fellow inmate, who gained Peterson’s trust, testified against him and at one point wore a wire.
The jury took less than an hour to find Peterson guilty on both counts.
Peterson is already serving a a 38-year prison sentence for Savio’s death. He could face another 35 years once sentenced.
Although law enforcement and the public suspected foul play, Peterson’s forth wife Stacy has never been found, and Peterson has not been charged in her case.
In a written statement issued after the verdict, Glasgow wrote that, “rather than accepting responsibility for his crime and serving his sentence, [Peterson] has continued his illegal activities behind bars by plotting my murder, a crime which his recorded conversations show he would have been all too happy to take care of himself. Today a jury once again has held him accountable for his unlawful actions.”
