(SPRINGFIELD) Still no state budget deal, but it was a kinder, gentler Bruce Rauner who talked to Chicago reporters this afternoon.
Gov. Rauner didn’t call House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) any names, so that’s a little progress. What the governor did was push two bills, one to open the schools on time and another to fund state government until the end of the year.
“I want to try and stay as flexible as we can but you know what, they’re good bills,” Rauner said. “They’ve been negotiated, they are affordable, they are reasonable, they are a solution and I don’t see any reason those two bills shouldn’t pass.”
Working groups are working on a compromise, but they’re not close enough to call the House and the Senate back for a vote on Wednesday.
