(CHICAGO) The holiday weekend has kicked off the reopening of the Illinois State Museum but it’s no longer free admission.
The Illinois State Museum was forced to close its doors some nine months ago since the state had no budget.
Governor Rauner’s plan to lay off more than 100 museum employees was put on hold after a court fight and Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesman Tim Schweizer says the facility will now bring in some money.
“The Illinois Department of Natural Resources asked the
General Assembly’s Joint Committee on Administrative Rules to consider allowing the department to implement a $5 admission fee for adults to the main museum campus in the State Capitol complex in Springfield and that was approved,” said Schweizer.
The Dickson Mounds Museum in Fulton County and the museum’s Research and Collections Center in Springfield are also open again.
