(CHICAGO) A state legislator, congressman, federal appellate judge and presidential adviser has died.
Democrat Abner Mikva passed away Monday at the age of 90. Mikva was one of the good guys in public service who served without scandal in all three branches of government from a Chicago ward office to the White House. His passing away on Independence Day feels right.
U.S Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) is a protege of Mikva.
“Abner Mikva was the political North Star for many of us in politics when it came to issues of integrity, independence and progressive values,” Durbin said.
And famously, Mikva was the young Democrat who was once told by a ward boss, “we don’t want nobody nobody sent,” which he ignored.
