(CLEVELAND) Texas Senator Ted Cruz started by congratulating Donald Trump on becoming the GOP’s nominee in the race for the White House. He went on to attack Hillary Clinton and talked about the future and making it better for our children but you could feel the tension building in the crowd. As the speech went on – no endorsement of Donald Trump from Ted Cruz and the boos started.
“We will unite the party, we will unite the country by standing together for shared values by standing for liberty. God bless each and every one of you and God bless the United States,” said Cruz.
The crowd was upset, some yelling, “Say Trump!”
Newt Gingrich followed with damage control, pointing out that with no requirement for endorsement, Trump encouraged his competitors to speak once again.
“I think you misunderstood one paragraph that Ted Cruz who is a superb orator said. Now, I just want to point out to you, Ted Cruz said, “you can vote your conscience for anyone who will uphold the constitution. In this election, there is only one candidate who will uphold the constitution. In this election, there is only one candidate who will uphold the constitution,” said Gingrich. The crowd cheered.
Closing out night three of the RNC was Donald Trump’s running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence.
