(CHICAGO) Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson has relieved a third officer of his police powers following a police-involved shooting that left a suspect dead.
The move comes after the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office on Saturday released autopsy results that determined 18-year-old Paul O’Neal died of a gunshot wound to the back. His death has been ruled a homicide.
Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says Superintendent Johnson spent hours reviewing video evidence with other officials following the release of the autopsy report.
Guglielmi also says a formal investigation is still ongoing, adding that “Johnson has pledged that CPD will conduct a thorough and fact based administrative review.”
Two other officers were relieved of their powers on Friday.
O’Neal was shot and killed Thursday night during a stolen vehicle investigation. O’Neal was black; police have not provided any identifying information about the officers who were involved.
