(ROSEMONT) The Village of Rosemont is mourning the death of a longtime public servant.
Donald E. Stephens II, who served the village for more than 43 years, died Saturday morning after a lengthy illness.
The 63-year-old, who spent years as the superintendent of public safety for the village, was the son of founding Rosemont Mayor Donald E. Stephens and was involved in the opening of the village’s convention center and the Rosemont Horizon, known today as the Allstate Arena. He retired in 2014 but was still active as the chairman of the Police and Fire Commission.
A statement from the village says he was surrounded by his family when he died.
Services are set for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Church in Rosemont.
