The work week begins on a brief dry note then low pressure traveling along a stalled front to our south will bring showers and a few storms to the region later Monday. Heavy rainfall is possible, especially for areas along and south of a line from Peoria to Gary, Indiana.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS EXPANDED THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH TO INCLUDE PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA…INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS…IN NORTHEAST ILLINOIS…KANKAKEE. IN NORTHWEST INDIANA…LAKE IN AND PORTER.
* FROM 1 PM CDT THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE TONIGHT.
* SHOWERS AND EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS WILL INCREASE OVER THE AREA MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE SYSTEM BRINGING THIS PRECIPITATION IS TROPICAL IN NATURE SUCH THAT THESE STORMS WILL BE VERY EFFICIENT RAINFALL PRODUCERS. RAINFALL RATES OF 2 INCHES PER HOUR OR MORE ARE POSSIBLE IN THIS ENVIRONMENT WHICH MAY LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. LOCATIONS OF HEAVIEST RAINFALL ARE STILL UNCERTAIN AT THIS TIME…BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY RAIN IS HIGH.
