(CHICAGO) When the full Chicago City Council meets today, the aldermen are expected to give final approval to two of the three pieces of police oversight changes. The mayor’s lawyer Steve Patton told the aldermen the process has had unprecedented input.
“Whether you vote for it or against it, this a good-faith attempt to reach a middle-ground that does not, either, put a thumb on the scale in favor of the complainant or an accused police officer. It tries to come up with a system of accountability that ensures justice, ensures prompt and thorough and complete investigations,” said Patton.
The aldermen will also be giving the ok to borrowing another $25-million for new police cars and to telling police to stop threatening undocumented immigrants with deportation.
