CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs will carry a two-games-to-none lead into San Francisco’s AT&T Park when their National League Division Series continues on Monday.
The Cubs beat the Giants for the second straight day as Chicago got three RBIs from pitchers in a 5-2 triumph at Wrigley Field. Kyle Hendricks hit a two-run single and Travis Wood belted a solo homer to help the Cubbies build a 5-2 lead by the fourth inning.
However, Hendricks had to leave the game after being struck on the right arm by a line drive in the fourth. The Major League ERA leader tried a few warmup pitches and talked to manager Joe Maddon before departing.
Wood was credited with the victory by tossing 1 1/3 hitless innings. Aroldis Chapman struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth en route to his second save of the series.
Losing pitcher and former Cub Jeff Samardzija (suh-MAHR’-juh) lasted just two innings, surrendering four runs and six hits.
The series will shift to San Francisco for Game 3 on Monday.
